    　　故事講述宋仁宗嘉佑年間，汴京狄家護(hù)國(guó)有功，獲朝廷御賜鹽米鐵專(zhuān)運(yùn)權(quán)。狄家僅于男丁狄青，生性不羈。雖無(wú)意爭(zhēng)名逐利，但為了要安慰母親，進(jìn)入內(nèi)廷當(dāng)一個(gè)掛名小官，揭發(fā)龐氏父子將官鹽調(diào)包舞弊，遂與龐家結(jié)下不解之仇。龐雄欲謀帝位，私通西遼，欲借西遼兵力篡位，鏟除狄青。狄青數(shù)次遇險(xiǎn)，幸福星高照，化險(xiǎn)為夷，更贏得美人歸。武將狄青保疆衛(wèi)國(guó)，威震西羌。窺視中原的河西王與上乘國(guó)王海飛云定下計(jì)策，假意與宋朝修好，串通宋朝太師龐洪，攛掇宋皇派狄青出使西羌修訂盟約，以圖除掉狄青。 　　與狄青有殺夫之仇的海飛云狠不得殺死狄青以報(bào)夫仇，狄青一入西羌便身陷險(xiǎn)厄。幸虧秉遵道義的鄯善國(guó)王及八寶公主救助，狄青才得脫險(xiǎn)，并在鄯善國(guó)招親，與八寶整軍圖強(qiáng)，以待結(jié)盟時(shí)機(jī)。河西王又施美人計(jì)，以假烈火旗為證，與宋朝結(jié)盟，同時(shí)又暗中使龐洪誣陷狄青在西羌叛國(guó)招親，欲反借宋朝之刀殺狄青。
